History

For many years, the Montgomery County Career Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 1664 had a Members Welfare & Benefit fund. This fund was created to assist Local 1664 members and their families when serious injuries or other unexpected, sometimes catastrophic events occurred. Over the years, the fund has been used for a variety of incidents when assistance was needed. Some examples:

    • Local 1664 members constructed a wheelchair ramp at the home of a Local 1664 member who was seriously injured in an off duty motorcycle accident
    • Helped pay for the post-funeral reception for Brother Rick Gentilcore who died on in the line of duty

Throughout the years, Local 1664 has also gotten involved in numerous charities and community organizations in an effort to give back to our community. These organizations include the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), breast cancer awareness, military veterans assistance and other charities. Montgomery County Career Fire Fighters have also provided meals and gifts to needy families during the holiday season by partnering with the Neighbors In Need program.

Discussions occurred in recent years about creating a separate, charitable foundation to accomplish the goals of the long-standing Members Welfare and Benefit fund. Words lead to action and action lead to the formation of this Foundation in early 2018. Legal requirements were fulfilled at the Federal and State levels, bylaws were drafted and a Board of Directors was established. We received our official IRS recognition as a charitable organization on September 11, 2018.  Please spread the word about us.
